Over 100,000 Visitors Attend H’ART Museum Exhibition From Rembrandt to Vermeer

14 August 2025

On view until 24 August 2025

Only ten days remain to see the exhibition From Rembrandt to Vermeer, on view at H’ART Museum in Amsterdam. Organized in collaboration with The Leiden Collection, the exhibition features 75 works by 17th-century Dutch masters, including 17 Rembrandt paintings and the only Vermeer in private hands. Closing on Sunday, August 24, the show has already attracted over 100,000 visitors.

In celebration of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, H’ART Museum is hosting From Rembrandt to Vermeer, Masterpieces from The Leiden Collection, a landmark exhibition of seventy-five paintings from one of the world’s most important and largest private collections of seventeenth-century Dutch art.

The exhibition focuses on the daily life and character of Dutch citizens in seventeenth-century Amsterdam, as well as other urban centers in The Netherlands. Organized thematically, From Rembrandt to Vermeer draws from The Leiden Collection’s unique strength — namely, the depiction of humanity in all its facets. Highlights include Rembrandt van Rijn’s Self-Portrait with Shaded Eyes, 1634, which shows the young painter gazing at the viewer through the shadow cast by his artist’s beret; finely painted panels by Gerrit Dou that provide a window into the lives of Dutch townspeople, including Herring Seller and Boy, ca. 1664, and Cat Crouching on the Ledge of an Artist’s Atelier, 1657; and Johannes Vermeer’s Young Woman Seated at a Virginal, ca. 1670–75, which was delicately conserved in 2024 to reveal in even greater detail the master’s exquisite use of light and color.

After the show’s last day, construction will begin for the following exhibition: Brancusi, The Birth of Modern Sculpture, which will be on display starting Saturday, September 20.

Next: Brancusi, The Birth of Modern Sculpture

On Saturday, September 20, H’ART Museum will open a grand exhibition in collaboration with the collections from the Centre Pompidou: Brancusi, The Birth of Modern Sculpture. This landmark presentation brings to Amsterdam an exceptional collection of works by Constantin Brancusi (1876–1957), who is widely regarded as the father of modern sculpture. Exploring the different facets of his art, the exhibition displays more than 30 sculptural masterpieces, accompanied by the original pedestals created by the artist, as well as his photographs and films. Centre Pompidou rarely lends these very fragile pieces, making this a unique event.

BrancusiThe Birth of Modern Sculpture is on show from Saturday 20 September 2025 until Sunday 18 January 2026. More information and pre-sale tickets are now available online at hartmuseum.nl.
